Data leaders encounter challenges. According to the 2023 Chief Data and Analytics Officer Survey, five of the top six challenges leaders face are people-related.

D&A leaders surveyed say skills and staff shortages rank as the top priority (38%), followed by lack of resources and funding (29%) and business stakeholder involvement gaps (28%). They are also struggling with having the authority to executive responsibilities (25%), organizational cultures that resist change (25%), and poor data literacy (22%).
